Steph Curry: Everything You Need To Know

Steph Curry: Everything You Need To Know

A member of the ‘Golden State Warriors’ in the NBA, Stephen Curry is an American professional basketball player. He is considered to be one of the greatest 3-point shooters in NBA history, having been the first child of Dell Curry, one of the best shooters in NBA history. It was the first time in NBA history that a player has won the Most Valuable Player Award twice in a row, including one unanimous win.

The best way to enjoy a game as a fan is to get tickets to a home game, so follow your team’s schedule (like the Utah Jazz schedule) and go to any away games that your team may be playing.

The Warriors aced their first championship in four decades under him, and his squad also broke the NBA record for most wins in a season. Setting multiple all-time scoring records at both Davidson and the Southern Conference, he was twice named the ‘Southern Conference Player of the Year’.

He also set an NCAA record for most three-pointers made in a season during his second year of college. His shooting skills have made him the NBA’s all-time record holder for most three-pointers made during a regular season, a record that he himself broke twice. Klay Thompson and he are known as the ‘Splash Brothers’ because they combined to make a record-breaking number of three pointers in a season.

Childhood and Early Life

Wardell Stephen Curry II was born on March 14, 1988 in Akron, Ohio. He was the son of former NBA player Dell Curry and former Virginia Tech volleyball player Sonya Curry. As the oldest of his parents’ children, he has a brother named Seth, a professional basketball player signed to the Dallas Mavericks. He also has a sister named Sydel, who plays volleyball at Elon University.

At the time of Stephen’s birth, Stephen’s father played for the Cleveland Cavaliers. After Stephen was born, he became a member of the Charlotte Hornets in Charlotte, North Carolina where Stephen spent most of his childhood. Both Stephen and his brother were taken to practice by their father.

After his father became a member of the Toronto Raptors, the family briefly lived in Toronto. Queensway Christian College’s boys basketball team was undefeated during this time. He enrolled at Charlotte Christian High School after the family moved back to Charlotte. He was overlooked by most coaches because of his fragile stature.

The coach at Virginia Tech where his father spent his college years rejected him even though he wanted to join. In November 2005, Curry enrolled at Davidson College after being persuaded by a coach named Bob Mckillop, who first noticed his potential at the age of 10 when watching him play.

College Career

In his first collegiate game as a member of Davidson College, Stephen Curry scored 15 points while committing 13 turnovers. However, he proved his mettle in the next game against Michigan, scoring 32 points. As a freshman, he was the second highest scoring player in the nation with an average of 21.5 points per game, earning him the title of Southern Conference Freshman of the Year.

After making 122 three-pointers in his freshman year, he followed that performance with even greater success in the 2007-08 campaign. He helped the Davidson Wildcats win 22 consecutive games in his first season leading the team to their first ‘NCAA Tournament’ since 1969.

A 34-point scoring performance during his junior year made him Davidson’s all-time leading scorer. As a career high, he also scored 44 points against the Oklahoma Sooners on November 18, 2008. As a result, he surpassed the previous scoring leader, John Gerdy, and became the ‘NCAA’ scoring leader.

Professional Career

The Golden State Warriors selected Curry as the seventh overall pick in the 2009 draft to play in the NBA. He left Davidson College without finishing his senior year. Right from the start, he demonstrated his shooting skills when he made 166 threes as a rookie in the league’s history. The fact that he played for a weak team and that he repeatedly injured himself kept him out of the spotlight for the next two seasons.

As a result of his ankle injury, he was able to return to playing during the 2012-13 season. For their combined total of three-pointers in a season, he and his teammate Klay Thompson earned the nickname ‘The Splash Brothers’. It was Stephen alone who set an NBA record by making 272 three-pointers during the season.

The following season, he made his first ‘All-Star’ appearance for the ‘West’ and was selected as a member of the first ‘All-NBA Team.’ He also surpassed Jason Richardson as the leading three-point shooter for the Warriors.

Averaging 286 three-pointers in a season, he broke his own league record for three-pointers made in a season during the 2014-15 season. He was named the NBA’s ‘Most Valuable Player’ of the year in 2015 after helping the Warriors win their first championship since 1975. Curry helps the Golden State Warriors constantly be on top of a lot of NBA picks and parlays, no matter which team that they are up against.

Net Worth

Among the richest of NBA players, Stephen Curry has a total net worth of 160 million dollars. These revenues have been derived both from basketball activities and from sponsorships and endorsement deals off the court.

Other than the money he earns in the NBA, Curry is estimated to earn between 30 million and 40 million dollars from endorsements each year. He has formed partnerships with brands including Under Armor, Nike, and TCL, while investing in the development of devices with this latter company.
